Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)

Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is one of Germany’s Universities of Excellence, combining the traditions of a leading technical university with the capacities of a large-scale research centre. KIT’s mission is to create and disseminate knowledge for the benefit of society and the environment through outstanding research, research-oriented teaching, and innovation.

Within KIT’s Faculty of Architecture, the Chair of Building Lifecycle Management (BLM) focuses on the research, development, and application of integrated planning methods for the built environment. BLM combines user- and needs-oriented planning approaches with advanced digital technologies, including Building Information Modelling (BIM), artificial intelligence, assistance and construction site robots, construction informatics, and data-driven processes. Its work supports sustainable, efficient, and future-oriented approaches to the planning, construction, and operation of buildings.

The chair is actively engaged in interdisciplinary research, teaching, and European cooperation projects, bridging architectural expertise with digital transformation, sustainability, and contemporary developments in vocational and higher education. In doing so, BLM supports the evolution of the construction sector and develops transferable solutions for the sector.
